Kupalo

Kupalo is our premier performance group, travelling out of town and performing at gala's, festivals, and other honourable events.
To join Kupalo, a dance must demonstrate sufficient competency and experience.
These athletes learn the most choreography, wear the most costumes, and look like they're having the most fun!
Kupalo Dancers are expected to:
- Attend all practices and dress rehearsals. Please read the ULAS St. Basil’s Dance Attendance Policy. In particular, a dancer who misses more than four (4) practices within a dance season will be put on probation.
- Arrive on time and in proper practice attire.
- Have a positive, hard-working attitude.
- Respect other dancers, instructors, and the rules of the classroom. While socializing is a fun part of Ukrainian Dancing and a necessary part of life, it should be minimal (water break times) inside the classroom.
- Document absences and/or if you will be late or leave early from practice when known in advance in the Kupalo Binder Calendar Pages. If an absence is not known in advance (e.g. due to illness), then the Kupalo dancer’s parents must inform the Kupalo Dance Director as soon as possible.
- Learn the choreography of dances they are in, both during class and if absent for all or part of class time. Video recordings and the instructor’s written choreography may be used to assist with this. Use of videos and written choreography for any other purpose and/or sharing them outside of the Kupalo dance group is strictly prohibited.
- Attend the number of practices specified by the instructor prior to a performance. This number will depend on the nature of the performance and will be communicated in advance.
- Perform in Ukrainian Dance Festivals (Competitions). The number of festivals, dates, locations, and other pertinent information will be communicated as far in advance as possible. Once this information has been announced, it is the parent’s responsibility to communicate with the Kupalo Dance Director if their child is unable to participate in a festival as this has an impact on developing, teaching, learning, and practicing the choreography.
