Dancers are placed in their classes depending on their development, age, skill, and technique to ensure that groups contain similar abilities. It is the final decision of the instructors as to where dancers are placed. The goal is to keep cohorts of athletes together as these friendships progress through years of dance together.
Every year we welcome athletes without previous dance experience. Oftentimes by the end of the year it's hard to tell who was new. Do not let a lack of previous experience stop you from coming to see what folk dance is all about. We’re happy to fill the stage.
Students wishing to dance with our senior performing group Kupalo are expected to be able to perform the basic following steps:
Girls: chaines, obertasse, turns from fifth, half and full prepdynnia turns
Boys: chaines, prycydky, cabrioles
It is also expected that those wishing to dance with Kupalo will have had previous exposure to steps from Poltava, Hutzul, Transcarpathian, Volyn and Polissian dance regions.
During the first month of classes some adjustments may be made to placing dancers in the other groups based on all the students which may result in costs for additional minutes or refunds if you have overpaid.
If a dancer withdraws from our program for any reason, a society membership registration fee of $25.00 portion of the fees will be withheld. Then the remainder of class costs will be pro-rated once costumes are returned.
