INSTRUCTORS

We are pleased to have Tricia Frederick, our Artistic Director, and our instructor, Stephen Ekstrom with us again this year. They have lots planned for the year and are excited to work with the dancers.

GROUP NAMES

After years of trying to tell the difference between Beginner, Novice, Junior, and Intermediate, lastyear’s board chose new names. They are Ukrainian words, all of which all fall into our nature theme.

Kvitky (Flowers) - Wed. 5:00-5:30
Vesna (Spring) - Wed. 5:30-6:15
Sontse (Sun) - Wed. 6:15 - 7:15
Kalyna (Berry) - Tues. 5:15 - 7:00
Viter (Wind) Wed. 7:15 - 8:45
Zirka (Star) Wed. 8:45 - 10:15
Kupalo (Summer festival) Tues. 7:00 - 9:30 ( and bi-monthly weekend workshops)

VOLUNTEER/COSTUME DEPOSIT CHEQUES

Each family is required to sign up for one volunteer commitment. We will be sending out a roster soon. Opportunities will most likely include: Winter Concert, Parish Coffee, serving dinner at the Cultural Centre, costuming, and the year-end show. The roster covers many duties needed throughout the year, but from time to time there may be requests for additional help. Thank you for helping! Please send your $100 VOLUNTEER cheque to class this week with your dancer. Costume cheques are $100/dancer and they will be due at costume pick-up.

OUR BOARD MEMBERS

Our Society runs on the efforts of several dedicated volunteers! Presently, our board is the biggest it has been in years! We always welcome new members to plan events, marketing, or assist with costuming. We meet monthly to plan events, review financials, and plan for the future of the society. CASINO DATES - November 13-14 Argyll Casino

Thank-you to the families who have already signed up to work casino shifts. Every family is asked to cover one shift in order to meet our requirements. This funding covers the cost of instructor salary, costumes, and other perks (costume bags, photos, treat bags). PARENT WATCH NIGHTS - November 20 & 21

On these dates, parents and siblings are invited into the dance studio to view the last ten minutes of class. If the weather is messy, please remember to remove your shoes before entering the studio.

COSTUMING

Our costume director and Artistic Director are busy preparing for this year. We will let you know the costume requirements for each class in a separate email. Costumes will be handed out in early January and returned after the final performances of the year. The $100 deposit cheque ensures all costume pieces are cleaned and returned in a timely manner.

EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS - CLASSES CANCELLED

In extreme weather conditions, classes are cancelled. Sometimes this happens with very little notice because driving conditions can change quickly. In the event of a cancellation, the Dance Directors will do their best to contact everyone using the email addresses that were provided at registration.

DANCE COMPETITIONS

We will be polling parents and talking with the instructors in the coming months before we decide which competitions we will do this year. Over the past few years, we have sent groups to Calgary, Lloydminster, Fort Saskatchewan, St. Albert, and St. Paul. We anticipate that most groups will attend 2 competitions. Kvytky will most likely not compete in their first year of dancing.
